History of Walk for Values

What is the Walk for Values?

The Walk for Values is a walk for you and I, our families and community, held with a purpose to promote Human Values.  The Walk for Values involves no money. Participants don’t raise money for any cause. Rather, we will make the world a better place by pledging our commitment to practice a human value of your choice

Walk for Values” was first started in Toronto by the students, parent council and staff of Sathya Sai School in 2003 viewing the violence, drugs and crime in some streets of Malvern area. It has now become a Canadian National and International Event held in over 40 Cities around the World including Ottawa, Toronto, Kingston, Regina, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Calgary, Abbotsford, Coquitlam, Fort McMurray and Vancouver.

May 27, 2010 was a historic day when the Canadian Parliament congratulated the Sathya Sai School, Canada for their efforts in reinforcing values in Canada and around the World. Hon. Michelle Simson, MP read a Statements by Members of the House of Commons and paid a tribute to the Sathya Sai School for spreading Values and organizing the Walk for Values.

This event is geared to raise the awareness of basic Human Values like Love, Peace, Truth, Right Conduct, Nonviolence etc. aimed at raising the human consciousness that brings self-transformation. The uniqueness of the event is that it is not a fundraiser and each participant pledges to make the community richer by practicing a value of his or her choice. In this way, it is a “walk in unity” aimed at making Canada, one Canadian at a time, richer by our commitment to values and our resolve to transform ourselves and the society. We hope that we can work together in this noble cause.

To further spread the positive Canadian Values, we have marked April 24 as “Human Values Day” across Canada. We have received proclamations from many Cities/Provinces including Toronto and Manitoba declaring April 24 as “Human Values Day” and Values Flags will be raised in many Cities across Canada.
